MagSi-NA Pathogens

Extraction of pathogenic nucleic acids

Pathogenic nucleic acids – DNA or RNA – are required to diagnose infections, monitor treatments and to track the spread of infections. These are all important tools in public health.

The MagSi-NA Pathogens kit allows for cost-effective extraction of pathogenic nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) from a variety of sample materials like serum, plasma, oropharyngeal swab, nasopharyngeal swab, or any other respiratory samples.

Use of nucleic acids

Purified total nucleic acids can be used for qPCR based or any other enzymatic pathogen detection method. The ready-to-use reagents and simple protocol are convenient in use and easy to automate. The included MagSi-PA VII magnetic beads are optimized for fast separation even from viscous sample lysates.

Technical data

Figure 1.Ct values obtained by real time RT-PCR for BVDV/BDV after extraction with DirExtract Viral and competitor product. Ct values shown are mean values of 4 replicate extractions from ear punches from the same individual animal.

Figure 2.Ct values obtained from dilution series (10, 100, 1000x) of viral RNA extracted with DirExtract Viral from 2 different BVDV positive ear notches. For analysis 5 µL extracted RNA was combined with 10 µL real time RT-PCR master mix. Slopes of the regression lines demonstrate no significant PCR inhibition.
